Jordan became the first country to vaccinate refugees against covid

Jordan is an interesting country – almost half of their population identifies as Palestinian-Jordanian, refugees from the original expulsion from Palestine, despite living in the country for 2-3 generations now. Ask a 20 year old Palestinian-Jordanian where they’re from, and you’re likely to get an answer in Palestine, and not Jordan.

Because of this history, Jordan has been one of the most generous nations in regards to Syrian and Lebanese refugees. Iraqis, Egpytians, Syrians, Lebanese – all of them call Jordan home in some form or another. It’s no surprise that Jordan is taking the lead on vaccinating refugees, simply because it makes up such a large percentage of their population.
